In the case of “Fortress” bridge in Gdansk, we are dealing with a model that was created before the documentation necessary to carry out maintenance. This enabled quicker negotiations regarding restoration of the object at much earlier stage of preliminary talks. Translating from CAD model to the spatial model is relatively simple and quick. In this case it was merely necessary to divide the model and decide which filaments need to be used to reflect the individual elements as faithfully as possible.
By creating a physical model of the object, the communication between the different branches of engineering is definitely easier. We have created a physical model which not only helped in key negotiations, but also significantly reduced costs in the initial design phase. Spatial prototype made in 3D printing works fantastically in the field of engineering and design, presenting the use of the latest technologies on the stages of the negotiations.
